Maritime – The sea is our highway
Greenland has a very unique infrastructure. Where other countries have highways, the sea is our primary transportation route. But it is a route with built-in challenges like icebergs and unpredictable weather.
Consequently, sailing in Arctic waters requires in-depth knowledge and experience.
Here, our primary job is to assist the many types of vessels in our waters. On a daily basis, we assist and deliver fuel to the Danish Navy, tankers, cargo ships, cruise ships and large trawlers, so that they can always get safely to shore. That’s why it’s necessary that the supply of liquid fuels and lubricating oil is stable, and that our bunkering harbors run optimally.
Local distribution of liquid fuels is one of our primary jobs. In the towns, this is done partly through Polaroil’s own organization, and partly on the basis of agreements with local oil dealers. In the villages, it is handled by our sister organization, Pilersuisoq.
At Polaroil, we have a wide range of Texaco and Anderol lubricating oil products, in small and large packages. If you use another brand, please contact us for product conversion.
Our four bunkering harbors are located in Nuuk, Kangerluarsoruseq, Sisimiut and Aasiaat. The facilities serve as bunkering harbors for the many large ships and trawlers that pass through our Arctic waters every day.
From our bunkering harbors, major logistical work is done to co-ordinate the many calls, so that every vessel can dock without problems. Our employees work hard to service all vessels, all year round, in all kinds of weather.
Only the strictest safety requirements are good enough. That’s why we work closely with international suppliers and shipping companies to ensure that we always comply with the current requirements regarding the storage, treatment and transport of fuels in our bunkering harbors.
