Mining industry

Minerals are the future

Part of our future of Greenland lies below the ice, buried deep in the rock. Here, rare earth metals are waiting to meet some of the growing global demand for minerals, for instance for use in batteries, magnets and LED lights in current and future communications technology.

We believe that Greenland has a bright future as a mining nation. That’s why minerals are an important focus area for us. They can help create new jobs and drive technological advances in the international mineral extraction market.

Focus on safety

Mineral extraction also entails a safety policy obligation toward both the environment and people. At Polaroil, safety and responsibility are paramount in the way we work and in the decisions we make before we act. That’s why we work in close dialogue with local communities and the authorities, so that extraction can take place as safely and considerately as possible.

Local distribution of liquid fuels is one of our primary jobs. In the towns, this is done partly through Polaroil’s own organization, and partly on the basis of agreements with local oil dealers. In the villages, it is handled by our sister organization, Pilersuisoq.
